ABOUT JOHN
A native of Norfolk, Virginia, baritone John Ford developed his passion for opera at an early age, first appearing in productions as part of the children’s chorus at Virginia Opera. His most recent engagements include Marullo (cover) in Rigoletto and Masetto (cover) in Don Giovanni both with St. Petersburg Opera, Schaunard and Marcello (cover) in a touring production of La Bohème with Peach State Opera, and the Count in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar in Germany.
Past credits include the title role in Don Giovanni with Opera MODO in Detroit as well as with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar in Germany, Guglielmo in Cosi Fan Tutte both with Small Opera and with Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, a role debut as Dandini in La Cenerentola at Theater Rudolstadt in Germany, Sid in Albert Herring as a Guest Artist at Georgia State University, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with Opera Breve. During the 2016-17 season, he toured across the Midwest as Belcore in Opera for the Young’s traveling outreach version of L’Elisir d’Amore. He has participated in numerous training programs such as FAVA in Austria where he reprised the role of Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro as well as Harrower Opera where audiences were delighted by his interpretations of Faninal in Der Rosenkavalier and the title roles in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni.
John received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Georgia and holds a Masters of Music in Voice Performance from Georgia State University. A student of Kay Paschal, John currently resides in New York City.
